Yes, as brilliant as songs like "Gimme Danger" and "Search and Destroy" are (street-walkin' cheetah with a heart fulla napalm...), it's gotta go to Fun House. Fun House is groovy as shit, and the opener alone sells it. Then it's "Loose," which just has this magical quality about it, makes your soul's ass move. Effortlessly. Groovin', all spiritual-like. Timeless. |

I love Fun House but for me Raw Power is just one of those definitive albums...and one of my favourites. |

shit that is a tough one. right now i'm leaning towards Raw Power (Iggy's '96 remix) cause Search and Destroy, and Gimme Danger are two of my favourite Stooges tracks. But then again so are TV Eye and Dirt. and loose, and down on the street, and penetration, and I need somebody and... ARRRRRGH FUCK! This is too hard |

Funhouse for me, big time. Side one is a perfect suite of songs. Side two with the sax and free jazz freak outs is not for everyone but I love it, especially on the song "Fun House." I bought that giant Rhino box with all the outtakes specifically for the extra versions of "Fun House" with longer freak outs and even more of Steve Mackays awesome sax playing. Not everyone wants James Brown and Archie Shepp in their rock but I'm a freak. Raw Power is also an excellent tape, and for many, the definitive Stooges because the songwriting is more refined and because James Williamson's guitar playing is more in the realm of Jimmy Page. The production has always left a lot to be desired due to the lack of low-end but the songs are still great. I'm a big fan of the songs they wrote after Raw Power that wound up getting released later on bootlegs of live shows and rehearsals like "Head On," "She Creatures Of The Hollywood Hills," "Heavy Liquid," etc. Can't go wrong with either just depends on what you're in the mood for. I've always found it interesting that Funhouse is one of the best sounding rock albums and Raw Power is one of the worst! |

Fun House, the production on Raw Power has always been a bit off putting for me. In fact I prefer Kill City to Raw Power, love the saxophone. |

Big Stooges fan here (at one point, I could give a rundown on the original Raw Power versus '97 remix versus Rough Power). They're both great, and both great records, obviously. I like Raw Power for the 4/4 violence that it has; Funhouse for the ambition. They're both pioneering albums, but in different ways; Funhouse sounds like art punk, and Raw Power sounds like the birth of what became known as punk, before it had any real name. In any case, I applaud the band for just being their badassed selves and telling the record company to fuck off while they just did their own thing. I can easily pick either of those two albums over the debut......love the debut, too, but it's easily, for me, the weakest of the three albums, which is saying alot because the first album is great in it's own way. I also consider the Raw Power album to be indicative more of the later era.....I consider "Gimme Some Skin"/ "I Got A Right"/ "Raw Power"/ 4th album rehearsals ("Wild Love", "Heavy Liquid", "Cock In My Pocket", etc) to all be one big awesome album. If we elaborate on the albums' unhinged sexual aura, Funhouse sounds like the album you have foreplay to and have wild, kinky sex to, while Raw Power sounds like the one where you just slip it in and go hard at it in one position for a quick fuck. It's a shame that they never put out that 4th album, because the demos/ rehearsals would suggest it would have been a fucking awesome album, and I still have no idea whether "Till The End Of The Night" would have been on there....don't know exactly where in the chronology that track fits, but it's around the Raw Power era. The end riff is just pure menace--it's something that Sabbath could have wrote. |

I respect your opinion, but deciding a favorite with each of these dyads is a piece of cake--as is with Fun House. However...Crutch brings up a good point with "I Need Somebody." That's the Stooges track that really drew me to them. When it comes to songwriting, Raw Power's hard to beat (except for "Death Ride"--awful). It's the production perfection on Fun House that cements it as my favorite of the two. |

Fun House. Raw Power just don't sound good. Alot of the power of music is in production and this just doesn't have it. Fun House got the legit classical tunes with songs like TV Eye and Dirt. Wins on those two by itself. |
