Heh, when was that? I must have missed it. One of my favorite shitstorms on SR.com was the Nebula/ Totimoshi tour versus clueless promoter, something along the lines of that nearly no one turned up for a gig and he blamed Nebula, then couldn't pay them (or was it that they didn't make the gig?). I think that Eddie chimed in saying that they'd had van breakdowns and it was either that they'd made the gig despite hardship and got shit on, OR they didn't make it and the promoter got pissed. But the funny thing was that the promoter made this huge deal out of it by creating a thread about it, and I guess that the Nebula guys got wind of it and tried to talk some sense with the guy on the forums.

Anyone else remember this to give better details?


It was a Boston gig; I remember that much. And it was at the venue Church, which Never Bodes Well.

I've only heard the self-titled, but I dig it too. I get similar vibes from it as I do from Pentastar.

I've only heard the Sea of Green song from the High Times comp, but I don't remember hating it. I'm guessing it's one of their better songs?

I'm having a hard time thinking of something, but I'd have to go with whatever generic boring stuff I've come across that I've since forgotten about. That's probably why I can't think of anything... Now that I think about it, maybe the High Times comp. The crap greatly outweighed the good stuff on that thing.

I remember Nebula getting burned, it was by some fuckbuckles called Ammonia Booking, who continued to promote and spam shows with impunity. The excuses were awesome: "AINT MY FALT ONLY TEN PEOPLE SHOWED. AM SUPOSED 2 PAY THEM FROM MY OWN MONEY LOL"

I always side with the band in those cases. It's impossible for a band to poster when they're not in that city (I always think that postering for out of town bands falls on the responsibility of the club or promoter), and it's not like any band is like, "yeah, we just fucking drove 300 miles to get here, PLEASE let us play to ten people". But i've seen it happen, and i've seen the club owners/ booking guys refuse to pay bands and/ or give them a hard time. Some shows are risks for bands, since they've never played there before, and not all bands draw well in every city or area.

Yeah exactly. Hell, that show was Nebula, on a Monday. Experienced bookers (or hell, pretty much anyone who's in the heavy underground music scene) would know the chances for only ten heads paid through the door are pretty good. Learning lessons on how to book/run shows at a veteran bands' expense sucks..

Its all a bit naff, really.
There was a window in the early noughties where I could stomach some of the better stuff but I can't listen to it anymore. Formluaic Sabbath Kyuss clones, stupid fuzzy downtuned guitars with no bite or definition, unnecessarily long droning interludes that go nowhere, three piece drum kits... hehehe. For me? Non!

and I have to say, there hasnt been, nor do I want to hear, anything worthwhile that has that distinct 'Isis sound', and I dug me some Isis. Maybe I missed the boat, but you would think some band would latch onto that sound and run with it now that they're out of the game.

I heard a bunch of Isis-type bands during my reign. None really eclipsed what Isis was doing on Oceanic and Panopticon but, like the various Swedish stoner bands, what they were doing they were doing well enough. For the more discerning tastes, such as yours, that'd still be a deal breaker, but I didn't mind revisiting the choice clones after the review was published and I was slogging through the next batch of loser rock.

That, mind you, was at the beginning of the post rock trend. Problem is it blew up way too fast and way too big, so towards the end of it all, those albums were pawned off to the staff along with the guttural doom and the grind and the bad photocopy covers for CDRs. Took me about a year or so to even listen to Isis again.

Shit, offhand I'm drawing a blank. Tides was one that I really liked at first and then couldn't stand once the deluge happened.

Hey Colossus' II was more Celestial than the spacier shit. That one's a keeper.
