good version live of the Shiner song "Cake" from the NYC show below.

I'd go see Quicksand anywhere in New England.

NYC this month is just out of reach (similar to Shiner) with a beach house rented in Cape Cod for the month of August, and my wife and kids there for the entire month.

That's right, smells like a college for 3 weeks. The record player has been working Ovahtime

here's another Indie band from Boston playing all the time in town, called
Speedy Ortiz. Imagine a poppier version of Jawbox or Burning Airlines, with a female lead
vocalist. The muscianship is catchy. not a full blown fan yet, feeling it out.
link for, what I've heard, sounds like their best stuff yet called "Sports" EP.

http://speedyortiz.bandcamp.com/album/sports-ep

It's interesting, there's sort of a post-hardcore indie/mathy group of bands starting to run the underground scene in Boston/Allston right now. I'm all for it, cause butt rock gets boring if it's not REAL good.

I definitely think of Boston as more of a "Tonight We're Gonna Rock It!" city, not as much as Detroit and NYC, but people like Planetoid or throwback late 80s style hardcore bands seem to get the lions share of the attention a lot of times. Cave In is like the Zeppelin of Beantown but nobody gives a damn. If you don't sound like either Kiss or Judge, you don't get no respect! Occasionally you get a Converge that breaks all the house rules. But they were brutal enough to turn the heads of the unwilling.

thanks Mr. Neutron...the videos that have popped up from the NYC show on youtube are outstanding, like almost DVD quality. So jealous, the band sounds like they haven't missed a beat. Here's me smoking the pipe with wishes they'll feel like extending some one off shows.

Yeah, they were OK. The music had some great moments, but I wasn't sold on the vocals.
Of the 4 opening bands over the two nights, they were probably my least favorite. They got a huge response from the crowd, though.

part of Story of the Sea used to be in the band Houston...who coincidentally opened for Shiner's first finale show at The Madrid in KC back in '03.

Houston had a pretty cool sound going on. spacey meets midwest rock.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsoVZiJg ... re=related

can anyone explain to me how midwest rock came to be? it's like D.C. dischord, Louisville math, Chicago space all rolled into the prarie and birthed such a rich sound. Who would have thunk it from a bunch of country bumpkins.

here's a stretch..but anyone else dig CKY on their first full length?

I grew up about 25 minutes from these punks. Used to see them in college bars
in West Chester, PA getting almost as drunk as me and my home town crew.

Even though it's punk MTV stoner rock, I thought the earliest stuff wasn't bad. Still sounds ok, albeit thin.

lost track of them when they officially entered suck, not too far after this first album.

whatever that song was that CKY had in the tony hawk game (edit : 96 bitter beings)... with the octave fuzz riff. i dig that song, but never delved any further. i think it's the whole "jackass" connection. Also, that linked song is from the 2nd album, i guess.
Boy, that guitar player likes his octave pedal, huh?
also, thanks for the ring, cicada link.

I saw Shiner many times back in the day (they opened for everyone) but could never get into them. That said, I heard they killed it (if you like them, presumably) at their reunion show.

Did anyone see any of the Codeine reunion shows?

The Chicago show was just incredible. I had seen them once back in the day but it was after Chris Brokaw left. I was very on the fence about going, but they were really incredible and it was great to experience that music live, one last time.

This is great.
unglued & the truth about cows are from saturday, the egg & brooks are from sunday.

I wish some of these videos would give evidence to how heavy the bass was, though. Paul is such a huge part of their sound.

You know, I saw this same trailer for the kickstarter as well previously, just before they were playing some reunion shows around KC...and then I haven't seen anything since.

You know, as obsessed as I am with mid-west rock....Molly McGuire has never really floored me like a lot of the other KC area/OKC/St. Louis/Chicago bands. Same thing with Season to Risk...just doesn't get me as excited.

I think some of you may like this

http://aeges.bandcamp.com/

not what I expected from a band with a guy from 16, and a guy from pelican. Pretty darn good.

I've been seeing that name Aeges for a while...watching facebook updates on the Pelican page. For some reason, I assumed they were an instrumental band...with that post rockish band name. Listening to this, it's not what I expected. Kind of popish..almost metalcore vocals kind of throw me off. The music itself is ok, but again...more radio friendly then I would have expected. giving it a few more spins. Not as arty as I would have assumed. A little Torche resemblance, a little
