That's a great song, I'd never heard it before either. That Pelican article is really cool, nice that they gave Pinebender some props. You got me into them...great band.

Speaking of Hum, kind of a cool interview with Matt Talbot. The interviewer is lame, but Matt reveals some stuff about recent touring and maybe just a glimpse of possible new material

I know one of the new songs is "cloud city"
i have it on a recording of a show they did in 2011. i think i got it from archive.org

edit: the other new song is called inklings, and is on the same live show:
http://archive.org/details/hum2011-09-10.ca14.flac16

also, if anyone wants those "b-sides" (like the one posted earlier,) all of the eps are available to download at mission control:

Pretty cool noisey band from Chicago called Bear Claw. 2 bassists and a drummer, so a lot of grindy low end with scratchy/spoken word harmony vocals. (think old chicago band Table meets Traindodge and Self Evident). All releases produced by Albini, etc. touring with The Life and Times this weekend.

Roadside Monument. I can't remember if I ever brought these guys up, I've got a couple albums of theirs. But on my way back from seeing KMFDM I was listening to this, their last and probably best album, from 1998, and I figured it would be right for this topic. They have the Traindodge thing going for sure. Taking the track in unexpected directions. Progressive post hardcore. Wish I could find my favorite tracks off the album, but I'll have to settle for this one.

I've heard this band name, probably from the old sr.com thread. total Traindodge similarity, almost scary, especially the opening vocals and noisey chords. I dig it. thanks snart. Traindodge is touring out west this November with Self-Evident. Hope they make it back to the east one more time before we all hang up our live rock shoes.

I know he's on a Slapshot album, but I can't remember which one.

Just bought 2 tickets for Failure in Boston.

Fuckin spaced it on Shiner, wasn't going to make the same mistake with Failure. I've watched/listened to that full show at the El Rey a couple times now. They sound like they are in top notch form, and the setlist is like a fanboy's dream. I am sooooo pumped for this.

I hear ya. Im gonna get to see two shows (chicago & milwaukee) probably as excited for this as i was for the shiner shows. Especially excited because Ive had so many shows in the past year that just haven't worked out.

It also appears that there is stuff being written for a new album.
Hell yeah.

Ugh.
The Life and Times played a show about 15 minutes from my house last friday.
I did not know about it.
Lybria also played.

from this video, it sounds like about 10 people were in attendance.

LAME.
