Used to do most of my drinking and a good-enough deal of my eating at a place called the Boonton Ave. Grille here in Boonton. It was a little expensive, but that kept out the assholes I went to high school with, and the food was awesome, they had decent beer on tap (drank mostly Paulaner, but come oktoberfest, they'd get more good stuff and lots of seasonals), and the people ruled.

Fucking owner sold it to some asshole douche bar that has yet to open and the alternative place in the next town over got flooded out and ruined in the hurricane, and now not only do I have no bar, but every subsequent night has been "what do you want to do for dinner" hell.

Clearly there's nothing left for me in the state of New Jersey. Time to move.

I remember when my local sold, the new owners took over two fucking years to turn it into a gilded, marbled piece of shit that no one goes to now. Terrible, awful misery.

Sounds good in theory, but god knows how many bars they're closing out there.

Word on the street is that the owner of Reno's is starting to shit into the punchbowl.

Fuck, I hope that place stays around.

A sorry state of affairs indeed. Wound up last night at the bar of a local Italian restaurant. Homemade sausage was a plus, but the fact that the most drinkable thing they had on tap was the Sam Adams Oktoberfest was a big loss. I'm getting too old to drink shitty beer.

seriously, buying a cheap bar top and a deep fryer to make fried ravioli might be easier at this point.

I feel your pain sir. I lost my local over two years ago, it had been on the market for a year or so - the owner had enough and just closed it down. Still, when I have gone along him at new year I got given large drams of his "top shelf" whisky the last 2 new years:-D

The pub in the village I live in is ok, the owners are great and they are trying to up the standard - the restaurant part is actually pretty good. What puts me off going is that too many arseholes go to the pub. I tend to avoid it at the weekends, and generally only go once a month (on a week night) with my Dad to have a catch up.
