Fuck, I went out to see Impetuous Ritual tonight. Got to the club at 11 PM and there were still fucking THREE bands left. Holy fuck, it's my bedtime now and IR aren't on until 1 AM (another hour from right now). This working joe cannot abide by that. These clubs gotta get their shit together and not cave into local support bands wanting to play in front of their friends. IR came from goddamned Australia. Fucking hell.

I take it you didnt stay and that does indeed suck. If there's ONE show I would like to see this year, would be them. I dont think theyre hitting east coast though.

The new Sanguis Imperem - In Glory We March.. is real good so far. Just got that in and hadnt played it much over the holiday. Also in the new Blaspherian Infernal Warriors of Death and after one spin through it's a keeper. Both are of the dirtier, scuzzed out variety I love.

No, I didn't stick around for the IR show. I was fully expecting the show to be over with at 1 AM (reasonable, given it was a school night) but fuck, IR weren't even supposed to be on until 1 AM. I actually didn't end up sleeping until about 1 AM that night because I took a good nap when I got home from work. I just didn't feel like hanging around a bar for three hours that night, before going to bed.

It's too bad, because everyone is saying IR are fucking crushing. Here are some photos that popped up on the NWN forum.

http://www.nwnprod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24684&start=60&sid=ed309517fbae5af3522e8e1aef9a3f1b

As a small consolation, I got to see YOB on Friday play in a 200 capacity room in a +21 show, which hasn't happened here in a couple of years now.

Although about 30% of the bands ended up cancelling, from what I'm seeing, nobody that went to Rites of Darkness is complaining. It was still a pretty sick fest overall that covered a lot of (under)ground. I guess the promoter isn't doing the fourth one until February 2013, so hopefully that'll give him a chance to get his finances and organization sorted out.

This Spearhead album hasn't left my rotation since I got it...definitely a sleeper that hasn't gotten the attention it deserves.

This was alittle disconcerting, as the guy who put it all together went on facebook, basically begging for more money/donations a week before the show. I saw a few raising some stink about it, and can't say I blame them. Some were into it for travel expenses and prefest/fest tix and a shit ton of bands canceled or were cut(?), not entirely sure...but sounds like a premiere death metal event needs to get it's shit together, and stop squandering peoples monies

I'd hesitate, coming out of state from preordering or advance tickets from here on out.

A new Asphyx tune led by this statement by the unfuckwithable Martin Van Drunen:

"This is true death metal, you bastards!"

EDIT: Re: Rites of Darkness, it sounded like a total clusterfuck, but I talked to a guy who went and he said the actual event went okay...afterward, however, the word was that some bands - including some from overseas - didn't have travel arrangements to get back...total administrative clusterfuck.

There was a colossal shitstorm on the NWN board about it, evidently dude had some industrial/noise fest the weekend before and the adv. tickets sales for both weren't enough to cover everything he promised to the bands (travel, lodging AND fees) so they started cancelling when they realized they weren't receiving flight tickets and shit. That money then became available to pay bands that stayed aboard, or else the whole fuck cluster would have died.
He still had to beg attendies for loans to cover some band's air fare, but I think those folks actually got their money back...

Looks like NWN will be doing the vinyl for that Antediluvian album can't wait to nab that. Been listening to the last StarGazer album alot lately, it didn't click for me last time I listened to it but it is now.

Apparently the industrial thing was being done by a friend of his or his brother and wasn't connected to this at all. That whole donation Facebook thing to bring Zemial over at the last minute was completely bush-league for a promoter though.

He shot WAY too high for this. Even in spite of the tons of bands canceling they still ran mostly late with the bands that did show up. Seeing Inquisition, Weapon, Anteuas, Dispirit, Vasealeth, Black Witchery, Cruciamentum, Impetuous Ritual and Mitochondrion in a weekend in a cheap-ass town on a cheap-ass travel (post-Thanksgiving, pre X-Mas) weekend would not have sucked. that doesn't even speak to all the killer shit I never heard that I might have been turned onto. That was the best part of Emissions fest; seeing the unknowns because so many killer bands come out with completely inferior recordings (especially in stoner/doom).

This dude is obviously not Greg Barrett, but at least he is trying. Giving himself 15 months might give him some time to tighten some shit down. Maybe?

Have you guys been following this Craig Pillard (ex-Incantation, Disma vox) e-drama? Check out this interview (I can't confirm its validity)

I saw that Disma got kicked off the Chaos in Tejas fest because of some of his interviews. Is there anything else happening in this regard? I suppose some people will accuse Profound Lore of being pro-nazi.

The dude in the Metal Review blog pretty much mirrors my worldview as far as underground music goes. As far as it's place in the world overall and where the bands/fans fit in at least. The Austin blogger guy defends the action as saying CiT has always been just about good times and they don't want any negative vibes to interfere. I get that too and the CiT can run whatever type of festival they want ultimately. That fest always seemed kind of douchey to me though, so whatevs. Disma will play MDF the same month, which has always been apolitical and just about trying to accumulate the most bad-ass lineup ever. Support whomever you wish, as you see fit.

Yeah, admittedly I am not shocked and appalled nor smashing my Disma album with a hammer. I'm too old for that shit.

Unfortunately though, I fear Disma may run into the same problems at other fests and venues down the road, at least for a bit.

If it were my band I would probably boot the guy for being a dumbass and get a new grunter (the vox are not what hooked me about Disma in the first place) but the Metal Review guy makes some salient points.

My thinking is let the art-form work against the asshat politics and it'll all eventually work itself out. Maybe that is too idealistic, but it's my stance on the deal. Everyone is a sentient thinking individual that should be able to figure it all out on their own. I don't need a nanny promoter to make my mind up as to whether an artist is acceptable or not. It's the same stance I have on religion/politics in general.

This Singaporean grind band Wormrot (that I think toured the USA twice last year!) actually just got arrested over NYE in Malaysia over some Islamic religious bullshit. This band would not have existed ten years ago pre-internet into the underdeveloped nations. I frequently have a neighbor on my Last FM (someone with near identical tastes as I do) that resides in the Islamic Republic of Iran! If we can keep the art-form going, eventually the global/art communal will triumph over those that hate due to racial bias like Pillard and Varg do. Unfortunately for right now, those guys are pretty huge historical building blocks of what is considered essential/cornerstone listening metal today (with Incantation and Burzum).

This guy Craig is very confusing. Judging by metal-archives.com he was in a lot of bands, including Methadrone (an instrumental sludge band which allegedly later became some kind of a nazi band that, if I'm correct, never released anything), he also played bass in Evoken, was a memeber of Incantation, etc...As far as I know none of these bands were ever involved in far right, or any political matters. And what tattoo are they referring to??
