Holy shit...the new album from Decapitated, Carnival is Forever, exceeds the hype...ferocious and relentless on all fronts...the songs exhibit serious range by death metal standards as well...from the technicality of Meshuggah to a sludgier almost-Great Southern Trendkill sound on some songs...

Whoah... new Decapitated? Last I heard, Vitek was beastly dead, and at least one of the other dudes was playing in Vader. I had no idea they were even still trying to be an active band.

It's a cliche at this point to say "the demos were better!" in regard to death metal bands, but it's true in Decapitated's case (in my opinion)

I'll have to check out their demos as I'm not all that familiar with their back catalogue...I saw a few rave reviews of the new album and decided to give it a spin, and it lived up to its billing...thanks for the heads up, sugar tits...

Right on all counts there. Thanks for the heads up--this is a beast. Just a relentless feast of catchy-as-fuck riffage. I will say, I wish the vocals were a bit more death metal and a bit less thrash/hardcore, but... they're fine, and everything else kills.

Nah, I decided this is going to be the all-purpose death metal thread, now and forever.

Been on a DM kick lately, especially enjoying:

Origin
The Chasm
Mithras
Nile
Decapitated

Just started digging into that Mitochondrion album. Fucking beastly. Reminds me of Portal, but also... Cannibal Corpse? There's some in there, I say. It works.

Lukecubed, what do you think of the new Origin album?...it's was a grower for me, but it won me over...my favorite death metal album released this year is Gigan's new one...loving the psych ingredients and the all-around musical motherfuckery on that album...

BIG fan of the new Origin. Does all the insane techy stuff they're know for, but it's groovier and it brings the mosh without ever getting too stupid. I've dug them since I-I-I, but it's the first album of theirs I can actually listen to end-to-end. Probably my favorite high-octane DM release this year.

Thought that new Fleshgod Apocalypse might best it based on the hype, but... not my bag. I've heard good things about that Gigan. Super-techy DM is really hit-or-miss with me, though I'm a bit more open to it lately than I used to be.

I'm w/ you re: Fleshgod Apocalypse...I just don't think symphonic death metal is my bag...some reviewers have said the Gigan album is a challenging listen b/c of the technicality, but I thought it was fun as hell...definitely a roller coaster ride...all kinds of crazy shit, but It's not a batch of aimless wankery...a friend introduced me to the UK band Spearhead...their new album Theomachia has a Morbid Angel and Malevolent Creation influence, and is hitting the mark with me as of late...

Goddamn, thanks for that Spearhead mention. Checked 'em out immediately, and it's intense, quality shit.

No prob...nab some of their earlier stuff too...Decrowning the Irenarch is on par, if not better, than the new one...really dig how you can understand what the vocalist is actually saying...

#1: My only metal buddy came over tonight, and got me to listen to Origin's new one...we both recently got into death metal. That album fucking smokes.

#2: Probably even better...I finally gave Incantation's 'Onward to Golgotha' a proper listen tonight. I will be all over that shit at work tomorrow. If Vasaeleth didn't spend 23 hours a day listening to Incantation, then I don't know how the fuck they formed a band. Shit rules.

Fuck you.

All you dick lickers need to check out that Pyrrhon album, especially if you dug the Ulcerate album...it's along the same lines, if not better...definitely more riff-centric...but, yeah, JkFlesh is right about Diabolical Conquest, although I prefer italics for record titles...

Ahh, I've been on a massive Nile kick since my last post. Can't stop. Fucking Pyramids, dudes. PYRAMIDS. SHIT'S BRUTAL. IT'S A TRIANGLE TURNED INTO A BUILDING. FUCK. GODS WITH ANIMAL HEADS. HIEROGLYPHICS. GODDAMN. The intro is just about the most badass thing ever.

And something a bit lesser known, but still killer. VIKINGS DUDES. LONGSHIPS SHAPED LIKE DRAGONS. THEY WORSHIPPED A GOD WITH ONE FUCKING EYE AND CROWS THAT SHAT ON HIS SHOULDERS. YHWH'S GOT NOTHING ON THAT.

(band totally kills, but they could have done a little research and found out they were using the same exact painting for the cover that Emperor used for Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. Oh well.)
