Just discovered these guys tonight. English dudes, that are playing the Rites of Darkness in December. They kick a serious amount of ass.

Pretty good stuff... curls my burl... but when/why did Incantation become THEE touchstone for most of the new-old school death stuff? It's like every third band is an Incantation clone. I'm not complaining, btw, just noticing.

That Cruciamentum EP is fucking great. Hope they do some other dates, in addition to the festival.

You are in luck. Unfortunately, for me, it's the furthest North they're coming (and their last USA date to boot).

Cruciamentum is fucking awesome. DM done right! And they just put out a split with Vasaeleth... That's a good match.

Dunno if it counts as death metal as there's no vocals, but Blotted Science released a new EP, and it's pretty good shit.

also, for those who are interested, Lux Inframundis just reissued The Chasm's 'Procreation of the Inner Temple' and released the new Shub Niggurath album.

Awesome! Where did you get that info, btw? Elbo Room website isn't advertising it yet, and neither is the local Bay Area show listing site I usually frequent.

Maybe these have been mentioned already (didn't see them in a quick thread review) but Tribulation and Grave Desecrator are a couple newer "old-school" type bands that avoid that kind of sound.

Yah RDD, I know Tribulation--benhogg actually turned me onto them. Swedeath/thrashy. I dig. I'll check these Grave Desecrator fellows out.

I actually dig the Incantationy sound have at least three worshippers in my collection--Dead Congregation, Father Befouled, and Vasaeleth. Just something I've been noticing lately--there seem to be way more Incantation types than, say, Cannibal Corpse types. That's a good thing.

For Black Aspirin, since I know he likes slow songs:

Anybody familiar w/ the band Dim Mak?...haven't had time to check their tunes, but they have Longstreth from Origin on drums, an ex-member of Hate Eternal and the vocalist from Cattlepress...sound promising on paper.

I checked out some Knives of Ice years ago and didn't quite "get it." Had a bit of a "hardcore"/tech thrash vibe to it in some ways, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but... I dunno. I remember not digging the vocals much. Had a similar reaction to The Dying Light who have a similar lineup (Ripping Corpse/Cattlepress members).

But I was less into this stuff then than I am now, was also a bit burned out on Willowtip-style bands, etc. Should probably revisit both.

^ Thanks for the scoop...I finally found time to check out some tracks off the Knives album and didn't care for the hardcore-style vocals or the production quality...sounded way over produced in a tech-death kind of way.

Asphyx to release new album Deathhammer (that's how the press release spelled it) on 2/27/12...the world needs more Van Drunen.

Fuck, I went out to see Impetuous Ritual tonight. Got to the club at 11 PM and there were still fucking THREE bands left. Holy fuck, it's my bedtime now and IR aren't on until 1 AM (another hour from right now). This working joe cannot abide by that. These clubs gotta get their shit together and not cave into local support bands wanting to play in front of their friends. IR came from goddamned Australia. Fucking hell.
